The Texas Department of Public Safety is looking for a motorcycle safety training officer in Austin.

General duties will include:

  • Plan and develop curricula and course outlines; select instructional methods; and develop training aids, manuals, and other materials.
  • Assess and analyze training needs.
  • Formulate learning objectives, and plan, design, and develop methods for the assessment and evaluation of training effectiveness.
  • Organize and prepare materials and supplies for training courses such as notebooks, handouts, flip-charts, projectors, laptops, or other resources.
  • Participate in the planning and development of specialized training, staff development, and continuing education programs.
  • Research, develop, review, and assess training programs and materials, and recommend modifications as appropriate.
  • Coordinate training presentations and provide training or technical assistance to other agencies and provider organizations.
  • Respond to inquires, provide, and exchange information with various external and internal customers regarding the laws, procedures, rules, and standards for motorcycles, motorcycle safety, methods, materials, techniques, results, and operator training.
  • Determine the need for and participate with others in soliciting and selecting sponsors for new training sites, training their administrative and RiderCoach staff and servicing, supporting, and monitoring their training activities including training range layout and painting.
  • Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge through a wide variety of media of Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and ATV Safety Institute (ASI) and Total Control of program changes, compliance, and status.
  • Perform technical assistance visits of instructors and Rider Coaches.
  • Perform contract compliance audits of both contracted and licensed motorcycle and ATV training providers.
  • Travel overnight on a moderate basis to accomplish agency goals and duties.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • May move motorcycle and ATV’s by hand and lift and carry moderately heavy items to accomplish some support activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Education – Graduation from a four (4) year accredited college or university with emphasis in criminal justice, business or public administration, communication or a related field.
  • Experience – One (1) or more years work experience conducting basic and advanced motorcycle operator training courses and two (2) or more years work experience conducting initial and refresher RiderCoach training courses.
  • Work experience of the type described or full time employment as a motorcycle safety training site administrator may substitute for the educational requirement with one (1) year equal to thirty (30) semester hours OR experience teaching ten (10) basic or advanced motorcycle safety courses may be substituted per thirty (30) semester hours.
