Do you live in West Texas? Are you interested in motorcycle safety? If so, the Texas Department of Public Safety is looking for additional RiderCoaches in the West Texas area.

Certified RiderCoaches teach motorcycle safety in Basic RiderCourses. Basic RiderCourses aim to increase rider safety and help riders enjoy their motorcycles more. Riders who complete the Basic RiderCourse can also be eligible for insurance discounts and licensing test waivers.

RiderCoaches not only contribute to public safety, but are also nationally certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and state approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety Motorcycle Safety Unit.

To attend the RiderCoach Preparation course and become a RiderCoach, the following steps must be taken, as defined by the Texas Department of Public Safety:

    • Submit an application with the necessary documentation and fingerprints.
    • Attend a Basic RiderCourse as a student within 12 months of your first RCP.
    • Observe three Basic RiderCourses to become familiar with all RiderCoach material and class logistics, and to increase skill levels.
    • Conduct a Basic RiderCourse as a RiderCoach Apprentice and demonstrate abilities to effectively teach the class.
    • Successfully complete a RiderCoach Preparation (RCP) course which includes passing a knowledge test, skill test and student teaching.

The RiderCoach Preparation course is eight and a half days long and is taught by Texas Department of Public Safety approved, MSF-certified RiderCoach Trainers. There is a fee of $200, and participants are responsible for meals and lodging.
