License to Thrill

You must have a valid license (Class M driver license) to operate a motorcycle, scooter, or moped on Texas roadways. Operators must pass a written test covering traffic laws pertaining to motorcycles, as well as a road test. (The road test can be waived in certain circumstances.) Texas law requires that minors 15 to 17 years of age pass the Basic Course approved by the Department of Public Safety before applying for a motorcycle license.
