In 2011, the 82nd Legislature passed House Bill 2469 creating a memorial sign program for victims of motorcycle crashes to be administered by the Texas Department of Transportation
(TxDOT). Known as the Mike Grove Motorcycle Fatality Awareness Act, the program allows family members or friends of persons killed while operating or riding a motorcycle to purchase a sign to be placed near the crash site.
Each sign will have a blue background with a red cross at the top. The following information will appear in white:.
- “In Memory of”
- Name of the victim
- Date of the crash
To be eligible for a memorial sign, the crash must have occurred on the state highway system and a crash report or other government document must indicate that the person was killed while riding on or operating a motorcycle.
To help offset the cost of sign fabrication and installation, a $350 fee is required. The sign will remain in place for one year.
